Rajnath Singh Issues Stern Warning to Pakistan Amid Kolkata Strike Threats and TMC Criticism
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh warns Pakistan of further division following Khawaja Asif's threat to strike Kolkata. While Singh recalls the 1971 consequences, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee slams PM Modi and Amit Shah for a perceived lack of courage in defending West Bengal’s sovereignty against external aggression, demanding immediate action on Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
The diplomatic friction follows a report from Saturday in which Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that Islamabad would retaliate by striking Kolkata in the event of any future misadventure by India. This provocative stance not only triggered a defense response but also ignited a domestic political firestorm. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday, accusing the top leadership of failing to "muster the courage" to condemn Asif’s open threat to India’s sovereignty. Addressing a public gathering, Banerjee criticized the "self-proclaimed 56-inch" Prime Minister and the Home Minister, alleging they were too occupied with "vote prachar" to address direct threats of external aggression against Bengal.
Banerjee questioned the government's resolve, suggesting that the lives of Bengal's citizens were being disregarded or that the administration was too "gutless and cowardly" to take a stand. He challenged the leadership to give "free rein" to the Central Forces, BSF, and the Indian Army to reclaim Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, asking pointedly if Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, or Rajnath Singh would dare to take such action. This confrontation underscores a deepening rift regarding national security and regional safety, as the Defence Minister’s firm rebuttal seeks to reaffirm India's territorial integrity and historical military dominance in the face of escalating external threats and internal political pressure.
